The Magic of Falling in Love

If you're fortunate, you've fallen in love once or more in your life. You understand the exhilarating experience of shutting out the entire world and tuning in to the only one who seems to matter.

Your focus changes. Your heart is lighter, your head dizzy. You do things that are irrational in the name of making your sweetheart happy.

I knew my boyfriend was in love with me when he flew half way across the country on short notice to see me. (We had both moved in different directions with our jobs.) He continued to make those long distance trips for four years. We've been married for more than 20 years now and trust that we've fallen so deeply in love that no one will be climbing out. When it comes to love, people often make promises they don't intend to keep, The man in this pop song from 2013 speaks from the heart, however, when he says he wants to be "the one" his girl can depend on.

It's not a bad thing to fall in love, she prods. He just might make her dreams come true.

3. "Truly Madly Deeply" by Savage Garden

Oh my, does this silver-tongued devil have the heart of a poet! Anything his lover is looking for, the guy in this 2006 international pop hit is determined to be. He's fallen in love and has set out to convince his partner of all he can provide:

4. "Little Things" by One Direction

Smitten, the young man in this 2012 pop ditty makes a list of tender love confessions in which he describes the various ways he loves his girlfriend, flaws and all.

In this classic pop hit from 1981, a man seeks to convince his honey that they have a future together. He relies on crystal raindrops and rainbows (but no unicorns) to persuade her that the two of them can succeed in love if they try.

Bursting with emotion, the narrator in this 1997 country song credits the transformative power of love for making him a happier, better man. His partner has cast a spell upon him, and the longer they are together the deeper he falls.

Just to be clear, the loverboy in this 2013 pop song is not saying that he wants to marry his sweetheart right now. He'd have to produce a ring for that. And he's a little tight on funds.

But the boyfriend knows just the right thing to say. He describes how one day—you know, when he gets his money right—he'll propose and make all her dreams come true.

Already he has fallen in love. Having discovered that no other girl can make him feel the way she does, this fella wants to be together with his mate until they're both geriatric. No matter how in love she is too, this technique will only work for so long before his lady love wants him to deliver on his promises.

12. "I Can Love You Like That" by John Michael Montgomery

This 1995 country song was so successful that it was also recorded that year by R&B group All-4-One. It features a man describing every girl's Cinderella dreams of being swept off her feet.

Question: How do I know if I am really in love?

Answer: Here are some signs that you are really in love:

1. You sense that this romance is "different" from past relationships.

2. Your partner brings out the best in you, and they make you want to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

3. You're best friends and can be open and honest with one another. It's not a relationship that is simply physical. You share similar interests and values. (Although some say opposites attract, it's truly the similarities that bond people.)

4. You value their opinions and preferences and want them to be happy, even if that doesn't always align with what you personally want.

5. Your partner is always on your mind. You feel an emotional craving, an uncontrollable passion towards them and want to tell the world how you feel about them.

6. You recognize their shortcomings and quirks for what they are and accept them AS IS rather than trying to fix or change them.

7. You can't imagine a future without them.

8. You're their biggest fan. You see things from their point of view.

9. You synchronize your life to accommodate theirs.

10. They treat you with dignity and respect. This is absolutely critical.

Answer: Here are 12 signs that a guy likes you:

1) He frequently starts conversations with you either in person or via social media.

2) He goes out of his way to be around you. Suddenly, you realize he's ALWAYS around.

3) He asks you a TON of questions to find out as much as he can about you and prolong the time that you're together.

4) He tries to impress you with humor, stories about himself, or physical feats.

5) He emphasizes the similarities between you.

6) You catch him staring or glancing your way A LOT.

7) He'll try to assess whether you're "available" by asking about your dating life, or he'll have a friend do so. He may try to play it subtle by asking what you do on weekends or in your spare time and who you hang out with.

8) He compliments your appearance, talents, or other things that make you special. He gently teases you (FLIRTING!).

9) He "accidentally" touches you when he talks to you, such as brushing a hand on your arm or sitting thigh-to-thigh next to you. He leans in to listen to you.

11) He may become tongue-tied, obviously nervous, may say awkward things or blushes.

12) His friends seem to know he likes you. They act like they know a secret: smirking, gently teasing him, or dropping hints/small jokes when he's around you.

Question: How do I know if my friend is really interested in becoming my friend with benefits like I am, or if she's just saying what she thinks I want to hear? We're both straight/bicurious women.

Answer: Before launching into a friends with benefits arrangement with anyone, it's important to have an open and honest conversation about expectations and what you each want. I assume this is a friendship you each value. Do you both value it over the opportunity for bicurious sex? Here's why I ask.

Anytime sex is involved, particularly sex with the same person over an extended period, emotions WILL play a role even if you don't anticipate becoming romantically attached. You might think you can maintain your current friendship "as is," but your relationship WILL change. You need to have a long talk before becoming sexual with one another. I'd say the same thing to a male/female friendship couple. Having sex changes any relationship in ways that cannot be undone.

Here are a few issues to think over and discuss. You probably won't have the answers for everything, but the questions should at least be talked about:

1) How long will your arrangement last?

2) What are the "rules" in your relationship for dating and having sex with other people?

3) What happens if one of you enjoys the arrangement more than the other or falls in love and the other doesn't? Will the friendship survive?

4) How will you know when the "benefits" are over?

5) What's included in the "benefits" and what acts are off-limits?

6) How will you introduce one another publicly?

7) Will you express affection publicly?

8) Will you hide your arrangement from other people (family, other friends, dating partners, strangers)?

9) Since you are both bicurious, will you be exploring more about LGBTQ issues and culture to help you with sexual identity?

10) How will you handle jealousy?

You had also expressed concern that your friend may just be going along with you and telling you what you want to hear. Make sure she understands that this is not something to just go along with. She has an active choice in this, and if she's not 100% onboard, then you shouldn't make this big change to your relationship. Pay attention to her nonverbal language as well as what she says.

Question: How can I know that a girl has fallen in love with me?

Answer: When people are in love they will typically want to be around you all of the time and they'll also want to tell you how they feel. Simply ask the young woman.

Question: How do I know that I'm in love with someone that I'm not really close to in age?

Answer: Falling in love entails mutual adoration; deep, intense and selfless attachment; a yearning desire for a long-term partnership; and common goals and interests. When you're falling in love, you want others to know it. You're proud for others to know about your relationship. You care about friends and family liking and accepting this person. You go out of your way to integrate them and the things they care about into your life. You don't want to be apart, and you miss one another. Loving your partner changes you for the better.

Regarding the age issue, many people endorse the "half plus seven" guideline when looking at the minimum age of a dating partner. Here's an example: A 30-year-old according to this guideline should date people aged 22: (30/2) + 7 = 22.

Question: What should I do if I think that he is "the one" but I can't see why?

Answer: Your feelings for your sweetheart are probably just a crush if you have no idea why you love him. Sexual chemistry can be a strong attractant, but it won't guarantee a lasting or happy relationship. Invest more quality time in the relationship, and don't make this a permanent commitment until you can clearly articulate what you love about him.

I have had a crush on my best friend very since the first day of sixth grade (I'm not saying how old I am, but 6th was SOOOOO long ago). A few weeks ago I came out to her as FtM transgender. I was so afraid that she was gonna judge me. She said: "I'm offended—" (me: 'oh crap') "that you would think I would possibly judge you". So theres a song called "you" by a great big world. I think it would go nicely up there. It's funny how well these songs seem to know what i feel before i even know i feel it. I was listening to a song sent to me by a boy and kept wondering "why on earth would he send me this?" The song is called "you are the reason" by Callum Scott. i could tell that i was falling in love with this one guy because they would always be in my head and it was like hell to get them out. Falling in love is insanity, wonderful and the world would not be livable if there was no love. I knew there would be many songs about love. I am still the one for the old-fashioned kind of song like Dean Martin's That's Amore where the moon in the sky starts looking like a big pizza pie, I can relate.

I thought of the old Elvis classic immediately, but I thought of the cover by Christina Grimmie, which I thought was better than the original. :) Great list...so many songs about falling in love. You need about five articles to cover them all.
