I'm trying to decide between willpower to make lifelong diet changes and bariatric sleeve surgery, which will force me to make almost identical changes but give me a head start. The message here is eat 1-2 lbs of veggies per day, 4 servings fruit, 3 servings protein (1 must be beans), 1 serving nuts and 1-2 T oil. Zero wheat, zero sugar, zero processed food. I do like the focus on what you should ADD to your diet being more prominent than what you should take away. I lost 6

I do like the focus on what you should ADD to your diet being more prominent than what you should take away. I lost 60 lbs before and I did follow a lot of this but not quite as strict. It works. It's hard. This book is more sensible and honest than most. Giving the logic along the way without getting extremely technical was helpful.

Enough to give it a try.The theory is much like Dean Ornish or Joel Fuhrman, i.e. lots of vegetables and fruit, less meat and grains, and very little sugar or processed food. But he's more relaxed about it. After a two-week "metabolic reset" a.k.a. the tough kickstart that most diet programs start with, he lets you go back to your normal way of eating and change things step by step in 12 steps which could take a year.
The title sounded odd to me but I discovered online it's part of a quote by Benjamin Franklin: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Overall a pretty good book to help improve health.
